The AVAA is designed to absorb standing waves between 15 and 150 Hz in a room. It does this just like passive absorbers, but in a much more efficient way and takes up much less space to do so. The active absorber has the same effect as a hole in the wall, which is much larger than the dimensions of the AVAA (0.2sqm). The exact ratio depends on the frequency and the environment, but is usually between 5 and 20 times the dimensions.
The AVAA affects the impedance of the air and “sucks in” low frequencies in its environment. Therefore, the best position for an AVAA is in the stiffest corners, as that is where all the room modes are most present. It is important to position the speakers and listening position so that the AVAA has little influence on the first reflections.

Active Velocity Acoustic Absorber

A microphone measures the sound pressure in front of an acoustic resistor. The acoustic resistor is designed to allow air to pass through but significantly reduce the pressure. Behind the acoustic resistor, a transducer diaphragm is driven to absorb the volume of air passing through the acoustic resistor and to provide a certain acoustic impedance in front of this acoustic resistor.
In operation, this acoustic impedance in front of the acoustic resistor is significantly lower than in the ambient air and therefore acts as a pressure sink. The acoustic impedance of the air is typically affected within a radius of 1 to 1.5 m around the AVAA. This explains why the AVAA can absorb more than its actual surface area.

It is designed to absorb frequencies between 15 and 150 Hz and is most effective for room modes that are the result of multiple reflections.

2 AVAAs have a significant effect in most rooms. Depending on the size and type of room and the desired result, between 2 and 4 AVAAs are required for most normal sized rooms (20 and 80 m2). For very small rooms, two AVAAs are also recommended to achieve a symmetrical effect. For larger rooms, an acoustician should be consulted for optimal assessment.

The AVAA has an effect on the sound in the dimensions of time, frequency and space.

Time: The reverberation time in these frequency ranges is significantly reduced, especially in room modes.
Frequency: The masking effect of higher frequencies is reduced due to more precise and tighter bass. Details in higher frequencies also become clearer.
Room: With less indirect sound in the room, sound localization is more accurate, making the sound image more precise.

    Service: ich habe erwartet, das bei Abwicklung mindestens eine Mail zum Zahlungseingang oder Versand erfolgt. Leider nein. Dafür ein Punkt Abzug.
    Produkt: die PSI Audio AVAA C20 funktionieren sehr gut. Auch wenn anders als erwartet. Ich habe sie in den Ecken hinter den Lautsprechern platziert. Beim Bass höre ich am Hörplatz keinen Unterschied (hinter den Boxen ja).
    Die hohen Frequenzen machen den Unterschied. Sie sind viel klarer herauszuhören.
    Für den der es sich leisten, eine klare Kaufempfehlung.
