The Phonitor One d from SPL is a headphone amplifier with two analog inputs and one USB input. Analog input 1 has RCA jacks and is thus unbalanced while input 2 is a balanced jack (TRS). In addition, the d version of the headphone amplifier has a balanced jack output for studio monitors, for example.
A 12V power supply with 1.5A supplies the excellent amplifier with power. In the secondary power supply, the voltage is up-transformed to +/-17V and can accordingly operate with a professional level of up to +22.5dB. A low-drop operating voltage control ensures clean signals even when the maximum voltage is reached.
The special feature of the Phonitor One d is that the innovative Phonitor Matrix is built in. Here, with the help of a crossfeed, a sound image can be created that is very close to that of speakers.
In the largest version, the parameters Crossfeed, Speaker Angle and Center Level are available. In the Phonitor One d, the most commonly used setting of -1dB center level and 30° speaker angle is preset. The continuously adjustable crossfeed creates a crosstalk between the two channels (interaural level difference). When the crossfeed is set to “Off”, the signal does not pass through the hysteresis circuit implemented by relay.
The Phonitor One d incorporates the premium AK4490 converter chip, which features AKM’s Velvet Sound® technology. Thanks to the DA converter’s low-distortion architecture, the finest details become audible. The chip enables a sampling rate of up to 768kHz PCM as well as DSD (Direct Stream Digital) playback up to a resolution of DSD4 or DSD256 (11.2 MHz). This qualifies the Phonitor One d for the highest resolution audio playback currently available.

Headphone Amplifier
Designed specifically for audiophile circuits, the Burr-Brown OPA 2134 SoundPlus™ op-amps provide preamplification with extremely low noise and distortion of only 0.00008%. Using an FET stage, the op-amp achieves a slew rate of 20V/µs for liveliness and playing pleasure.
Low capacitance film capacitors are used as bypass capacitors to ensure precise transmission of the high frequency signal components.
The bipolar transistors, which are built into the output stage of the headphone amplifier, divide positive and negative half-waves during amplification. This allows a larger output voltage than with a transistor that amplifies both half-waves. Thermal coupling of the power amplifier transistors ensures a consistent sound image.
