A preamp is an amplifier that ensures that the incoming signal is raised in level for the further process. Such preamps are used in various areas of music. For example, a microphone signal is boosted to line level via a mic preamp in order to be able to control it optimally. Other applications are e.g. guitar and bass amps or record players.
