The Phonitor One from SPL is a headphone amplifier with two analog inputs. Input 1 has RCA jacks and is therefore unbalanced while input 2 is a balanced jack (TRS).
A 12V power supply with 1.5A supplies the excellent amplifier with power. In the secondary power supply, the voltage is up-transformed to +/-17V and can accordingly operate at a professional level of up to +22.5dB. A low-drop operating voltage control ensures clean signals even when the maximum voltage is reached.

The special feature of the Phonitor One is that the innovative Phonitor Matrix is built in. Here, with the help of a crossfeed, a sound image can be created that is very close to that of speakers.
In the largest version, the parameters Crossfeed, Speaker Angle and Center Level are available. In the Phonitor One, the most commonly used setting of -1dB center level and 30° speaker angle is preset. The continuously adjustable Crossfeed creates a crosstalk between the two channels (interaural level difference). When the crossfeed is set to “Off”, the signal does not pass through the hysteresis circuit implemented by relay.

Many connection possibilities

Monitoring via loudspeakers can also be managed via the Marc One: It allows connecting and switching between 2 pairs of speakers including subwoofer with home equipment or studio level, which can be set via DIP switches. The signal can be passed on to further equipment via the stereo line-out. Like the Phonitor One, the Marc One has balanced and unbalanced inputs. To facilitate professional monitoring, the analog and digital inputs can be continuously crossfaded, the signal can be summed to mono and the left and right channels can be swapped.

32 Bit AD/DA Converter

The converter chipset comes from AKM’s premium Velvet Sound® series. The AK5552 is used as the analog-to-digital converter and the AK4490 as the digital-to-analog converter.

Both the AD and DA converters offer 32-bit processing. Velvet Sound® technology makes the finest details audible thanks to its low-distortion architecture.

Sampling frequencies up to 768 kHz PCM (16 times CD resolution) as well as the playback of DSD (via DoP – DSD over PCM) up to a resolution of DSD4 or DSD256 (11.2 MHz) are supported.

This qualifies the Marc One for the currently highest resolution audio recording and audio playback.
