The Phonitor 3 DAC is not only the ultimate headphone amplifier and monitor controller with 120V technology – the integrated DAC makes it the perfect monitoring center for demanding producers as well as sound and mastering engineers working with digital feeds or directly in the DAW.

Whether USB, AES/EBU or S/PDIF – the integrated DAC with analogue SLP120 converts digital PCM audio signals with a resolution of 32 bits and a sampling rate of up to 768 kHz. It converts DSD signals with a resolution of up to DSD256.

On the analog side, the Phonitor 3 DAC, based on SPL 120V technology, offers the same monitoring quality over speakers and headphones as the big SPL mastering consoles. The analog phonitor matrix makes it possible to mix and master in the highest quality over headphones – with the same spatial perception of the stereo stage as over loudspeakers.

There is a dip switch on the bottom of the device. Here, for the RCA jacks, the consumer level can be raised from -10 dBV to 0 dBu for CD players and other HiFi equipment.

In addition, the volume control can be remotely controlled via infrared operation. To do this, press the Learn button on the back of the headphone amplifier and teach the corresponding louder and quieter buttons.

DAC 120 Volt

The converter chip in the Phonitor 3 DAC’s digital-to-analog converter is the highly acclaimed AKM AK4490 Velvet Sound™ premium DAC chip, whose architecture reproduces the finest sonic details. It converts PCM audio with a resolution of 32 bits and a sampling rate of up to 768 kHz, which is 16 times the CD resolution. Direct Stream Digital is supported up to a resolution of DSD4 or DSD256.

Every signal that is passed from a DAC chip into the analog world must be filtered through a low-pass filter. Unlike any other DAC in the world, our analog low-pass filters use SPL 120V technology, which adds dynamic range, headroom and sound. The DAC in the Phonitor 3 DAC is equipped with the SLP120 – an analog “single low pass” filter with 120V technology.

Expansion Rack

The Phonitor 3 can be expanded into a full-featured monitor controller by adding an Expansion Rack.

In the expansion rack, the phonitor is installed in a 19″ housing. This allows the headphone amplifier to be installed in a studio desk or rack.

There is a module that is connected to the main out of the Phonitor 3. The add-on module provides four outputs for speaker pairs and a controller knob to select the desired speaker. This turns the Phonitor 3 into a full-featured monitor controller.
