The Control One from SPL Audio is a monitor controller with innovative features and outstanding sound quality. Two pairs of speakers and a subwoofer can be connected and controlled via the switch on the front panel. When the switch is in the center position, both speaker pairs are turned off. This feature is practical, as it allows the volume control to remain in the set position. The subwoofer output is automatically activated in combination with speaker pair A. In addition, there is another line out to connect e.g. external headphone amplifiers or to send the signal to a mixer for further processing. If sensitive active speakers or amplifiers are connected, the playback can already be quite loud in the first third of the control range of the volume control. To allow a wider usable range of the control, the output level can be lowered via a -10dB dip switch on the rear panel.

Monitor Controller

The Control One offers three different monitoring modes. These are adjustable via a switch on the front. In the center position, the signal is played back as a completely normal stereo signal. To check the mono compatibility, the switch is set to “Mono”. The third switch position is a special function. Here the left and right sides of the signal are swapped. This is especially useful for video dubbing. If you are looking for samples in the library that should match the direction of movement, you can quickly swap the channels if they do not match the picture. With the L/R > R/L function it is possible to swap the direction of movement already during pre-listening.

Furthermore, the controller has two stereo inputs for players such as a DA converter, CD player or mixer. Just like the speaker outputs, the corresponding input can be controlled via a switch on the front panel. In the center position, Input 1 + 2 are mixed together.

The output stage of the headphone amplifier is designed as a push-pull amplifier in Class AB operation. Thanks to the bipolar transistors, a higher gain and a larger output voltage is thus possible. They are thermally coupled, which contributes to a consistent and stable sound image.

Built into the headphone amplifier is the revolutionary Phonitor Matrix, which allows you to create mixes through headphones that sound just like they do through speakers. The Phonitor Matrix includes three parameters: Crossfeed, Speaker Angle and Center Level. In Control One the most used values of Center Level and Speaker Angle are set. The center level is -1dB and the speaker angle is 30°. Crossfeed determines the crosstalk of the two channels and is continuously adjustable in this device. This function is only in the audio path as soon as it is added by relay control.
