The classic C800G is the only tube microphone in the world to feature an active semiconductor cooling system that results in a higher signal-to-noise ratio than most other tube microphones. The Golden Age Premier GA-8000 is currently the only microphone that fully reproduces the C800G. Appearance and construction, as well as accessories and circuit principles, including sound character, strictly follow the original design. All parts, including the power plug and power supply pinout, are the same as the original C800G.
Scope of delivery: GA-8000, spider, cable, power supply, metal flight case
  • Polar pattern: cardioid, omnidirectional
  • Frequency response: 20Hz-20kHz
  • Maximum sound pressure level: 137dB (cardioid), 140dB (omnidirectional)
  • Output impedance: 100 Ohm
  • SNR: 76dB
  • Inherent noise: 18dB (A weighted)
  • Tube: 6AU6
  • Sensitivity of -33dB/Pa

High End Tube microphone

Although the circuit board is based on the original, it has been upgraded to a ROGERS ceramic board, which has better isolation parameters and offers more stable performance. The coupling and bypass capacitors have also been improved, resulting in a deeper and more accurate low frequency response and a finer and more transparent high frequency. The classic active semiconductor cooling and external cooling system of the C800G are also used in the GA-8000. This is to ensure that the microphone has the highest possible signal-to-noise ratio. The built-in 6AU6 tube is housed in an aluminum case, with the semiconductor cooling chip mounted on the bottom of the case. The temperature of the tube in the GA-8000 is effectively kept low when the microphone is in operation. The heat generated by the tube is actively dissipated. It is transferred to the back of the semiconductor and passed to the effective outer aluminum alloy heat sink on the back of the microphone. This heat sink then dissipates the heat from the semiconductor cooling chip to the air.
The printed circuit board used is a gold-plated ROGERS ceramic board. This type of circuit board is usually used in high-end aerospace communication products. The cost is about twenty times higher than an ordinary printed circuit board. By disassembling a C800G and turning the capsule over to a manufacturer with more than twenty years of experience in making microphone capsules, the manufacturer was able to produce a capsule that matched the characteristics of the original capsule. The capsule used in the GA-8000 can handle a higher sound pressure level than the original and has almost the same sound character. To ensure a long tube life, we use a NOS GIFTE 6AU6 tube from France, which has a maximum anode voltage of about 300V. The tube in this circuit has an anode voltage of 90V and generates more heat than tubes in many other tube microphones, which typically use voltages between 35-50V. The higher voltage used in the GA-8000 increases heat dissipation, so the active semiconductor cooling system is an important element of the design. The power supply of the classic 800G uses two 6AU6 tubes as rectifiers for the high voltage rail. They work as pseudo diodes by connecting all the grids to the anode, which outputs about 290V. After many listening tests comparing a tube rectifier circuit to a solid state circuit, the latter was preferred. The added advantage is that there is no need to worry about replacing tubes in the power supply. The metal resistors and electrolytic capacitors from Japan are special audiophile types. The coupling capacitors are Siemens EPCOS from Germany.
