The R1A from golden Age is a unique microphone, as it is a high-quality and affordable vintage-style ribbon microphone. It is equipped with high-end components in addition to active electronics. The R1A offers the special and natural sound that was present in classic microphones like the RCA 44 and 77, which are still used for high-quality recordings some 80 years later. In addition, the active circuitry raises the output level significantly, making it comparable to that of many condenser microphones. This has the good effect of eliminating the need for special high-gain microphone preamps when using the R1A on quiet sound sources. In addition, the R1A can be easily connected to long microphone cables and any microphone preamps.

It impresses with a very smooth top end and an extended low end. In addition, the microphone can handle sound levels of up to 160dB SPL. For this, a -10dB pad can be switched on, as well as a low cut at 160Hz.

One of the factors that usually alters the sound of passive ribbon microphones is the input impedance of the downstream microphone preamplifier. The R1A’s active output circuitry buffers the ribbon and the gain transformer from the outside world, so that the R1A delivers the best possible performance in any situation. The R1A is well suited for recording most sound sources such as vocals, acoustic instruments, strings, winds, orchestras and choirs, as well as many live applications. Despite its low price, the R1A meets the highest demands.
