API Audio 2500+ Stereo Buss Compressor

The API 2500+ Stereo Bus Compressor allows you to edit the sonic characteristics to change the punch and tone of the stereo mix. The 19-inch rack unit features a two-channel design that can be configured for stereo compression or for use as two separate units with a single compression setting.

Among the many qualities that make the 2500+ unique is the use of API’s patented THRUST® circuitry, which provides punchy, punchy bass. Another feature of the 2500+ is the selectable “old” or “new” compression, with the old style using the API 525’s “feed-back” compression and the new style using “feed-forward” compression, where the compressor side chain is fed directly from the device input. In addition, the 2500+’s output stage features an auto-makeup gain switch that allows you to vary threshold or ratio while automatically maintaining a constant output level.

The 2500+ is equipped with a mix/blend circuit. First introduced in the limited 50th Anniversary Edition, the Mix/Blend circuit offers the ability to mix the compressed and uncompressed signals either by crossfader or in parallel. Three different settings are offered:

• OFF – compressed signal only
• X (Cross) – allows setting the MIX control between 100% uncompressed and 100% compressed – one is increased while the other is decreased
• Parallel – allows the MIX control to mix the compressed signal into the uncompressed signal (which remains the same).

The 2500+ ensures high fidelity with its fully balanced design and two VU meters on the front panel that indicate input, output, and gain reduction levels.
