Every engineer and musician would love to own an original Pultec EQP-1 equalizer. The simple truth about audio equipment is that – unlike violins and brandy – electronics do not get better with age. Even if you find an equalizer on the vintage market that is in good condition and fully functional, the exorbitant price can be somewhat of an obstacle…. and maintenance is a potential nightmare.

A-Designs Audio’s EM-EQ2 is the answer for those who want to combine the great sound of a Pultec equalizer with the added benefits of modern performance and reliability. The EM-EQ2 retains the EQ section design, knob placement and wonderful musicality of the original Pultec. It also features the same frequency settings and coils that made the Pultec an indispensable tool for shaping the sound spectrum, especially the lower frequency range. The high band is attenuated at 5k, 10k, 20kHz; bandwidth and boost can be varied in the mid to high band at 3k, 4k, 5k, 6k, 10k, 12k, 16kHz; and of course the low band can be boosted and/or attenuated at 20Hz, 30Hz, 60Hz or 100Hz. Boost and attenuation can be adjusted from 0 dB to ±10 dB.

The dual-channel EM-EQ2 is ideal for tracking, mixing, or mastering, and is housed in a rugged 2U metal enclosure. It features the same custom-milled front panel, brushed aluminum knobs, large jewel power indicator light, and heavy-duty Carling toggle switch as the A Designs Hammer (which matches the EM-EQ2 perfectly). Other features include a proprietary Cinemag output transformer with nickel core, Wima capacitors, and a true bypass. Instead of the usual off-the-shelf chokes, A-Designs Audio uses a custom-wound Cinemag coil.
