Schoeps MK 4V | Microphone Capsule

The MK 4V was developed to meet the demand for a cardioid microphone with lateral pickup. In addition to its use in concert halls, this type of capsule is also particularly suitable for voiceover studios, as the slight treble boost at 10kHz contributes to better speech intelligibility. The range of a classic cardioid like the MK 4V is about 1.7 times greater than that of an omnidirectional. Thus, a direct sound is achieved even at greater distances from the sound source. Especially when mixing multiple microphone signals, the advantages of the MK 4 become apparent, as it transmits lateral sound attenuated as well as uncolored. The MK 4’s attenuation is 6 dB at 90° sound incidence and 20 to 30 dB from 180°. Diffuse incident sound is reproduced 4.8 dB weaker than frontal incident sound. The MK 4V is equally suitable for speech and music recordings. It is often used as a support microphone as well as a studio microphone and in stereo arrangements.
