The Vanguard V44S Gen2 is a large diaphragm stereo condenser microphone specifically designed to provide the flexibility and sonic character of the classic stereo condenser microphones of yesteryear. This microphone is designed for a variety of stereo recording techniques such as X/Y, mid-side and Blumlein and combines vintage sound with modern technical improvements. Thanks to its unique features and first-class manufacturing, the V44S Gen2 is a versatile, reliable and powerful tool for any professional sound engineer.
The V44S Gen2 is equipped with two precisely matched multi-pattern capsules, each of which can be switched independently to cardioid, omnidirectional or figure-of-eight. It has a 120-degree rotation mechanism that allows the capsules to be precisely positioned at different angles to achieve optimal stereo recordings. This innovative feature makes the V44S Gen2 perfect for traditional stereo recording techniques as well as more unconventional approaches.
Thanks to the revision of the electronics, the V44S Gen2 offers an improved signal-to-noise ratio and soundstage compared to the first generation. By using high-quality audiophile components, including cryogenically treated FET circuits and US-made low-impedance precision resistors, noise suppression has been reduced to an almost inaudible level.
The V44S Gen2 was developed in the USA and is subject to strict quality controls before being assembled and tested by hand in Southern California. The housing is made of stainless steel, aluminum and zinc and is designed to withstand the rigors of studio and stage use. The microphone is finished in a Pinot Noir finish with polished nickel accents and a Vanguard crest. Every component of the V44S Gen2 is oversized to ensure maximum durability and performance.

One of the most striking improvements is the newly designed, robust rotation mechanism of the head basket. This has been specifically designed to ensure reliable and durable operability, with rotation in 15-degree detents. This provides high precision and repeatability when positioning the capsules, which is crucial for stereo recordings.
The V44S Gen2 was designed with the sonic character of classic stereo microphones in mind, while incorporating modern technology and design to meet the needs of today’s recording engineers. The 3µm thin, edge-terminated capsule diaphragms are exceptionally sensitive, allowing them to capture even the finest nuances and details of a performance.
With independently switchable polar patterns for each capsule – cardioid, omnidirectional and figure-of-eight – the V44S Gen2 offers flexibility in microphone placement. It enables a variety of techniques such as X/Y, mid-side, Blumlein and other unconventional stereo applications that can be performed with just one microphone.
