The Vanguard V4 Gen2 is a large diaphragm condenser microphone with three switchable polar patterns and FET technology that has been redesigned from the ground up to meet the needs of both professional studios and ambitious home studios.
The V4 Gen2 features a 34mm edge-terminated dual capsule based on an ultra-thin 3µm Mylar diaphragm, specifically tuned to capture every detail and nuance of a performance. This capsule is housed in an open head basket to minimize internal reflections and ensure natural sound reproduction. The advanced transformerless FET circuitry and oversized components ensure a clear, distortion-free signal with an extremely low noise floor.
The second generation of the V4 has not only been electronically revised, but also mechanically improved. With an optimized signal-to-noise ratio, high-quality resistors and an improved sound stage, the V4 Gen2 is ready to master demanding recording situations.
The V4 Gen2 was developed in the USA and undergoes rigorous testing in Southern California before being carefully assembled by hand. Every component of the microphone has been oversized to ensure maximum reliability. Cryogenic treatment of critical electronic components extends the life and improves the performance of these components.
The body of the microphone is made of stainless steel, brass, aluminum and zinc, giving it high durability and robustness. The V4 is visually enhanced by the deep gloss Pinot Noir finish and polished nickel accents, while the Vanguard logo and serial number are laser engraved.

The V4 Gen2 was developed with the sonic characteristics of classic FET microphones in mind, incorporating modern technology and design to meet the demands of today’s recording engineers. The 3µm thin capsule diaphragms are extremely sensitive to capture even the finest details of a recording. The V4 Gen2 is ideal not only for vocals and acoustic instruments, but also for drums, brass and electric instruments.
With three polar patterns – cardioid, omnidirectional and figure-of-eight – the microphone offers a wide range of applications in various recording environments. The additional -10dB/-20dB pad circuit makes it possible to record loud sound sources without clipping.
The internal solid-state FET circuitry without transformer, combined with high-quality US-made transistors and resistors, ensures a first-class sound quality that is far above what you would expect from a microphone in this price range.
