The Vanguard V14 is a versatile tube condenser microphone designed with cutting-edge technology and classic sonic features. Inspired by the famous vintage microphones from Austria, the V14 offers a unique feature: the Variable Voltage control, which allows you to adjust the tube voltage to create different tonal colorations. It is the perfect choice for sound engineers and musicians who want a wide range of sound options in a single microphone.

The V14 uses a hand-picked BeesNeez CK12 capsule, known for its detailed and full sound reproduction. The capsule is powered by a GE 6072A tube, a vintage tube that gives the microphone a warm and musical sound characteristic. With 9 switchable polar patterns, the V14 offers flexibility in any recording situation.

The V14 was designed in the USA and assembled by hand in Southern California. Each microphone undergoes rigorous quality controls before it is packaged. The use of US-made resistors, high-quality capacitors and a Cinemag® transformer ensures that the microphone meets the high standards of professional recording.

The microphone is built to last: All components are oversized where possible and the electronics are cryogenically treated to maximize component life and performance. The robust stainless steel housing ensures that the V14 works reliably even in the most demanding studio environments.

One of the outstanding features of the V14 is the variable voltage control located on the power supply unit. This makes it possible to regulate the tube voltage from 34V to 105V, which has a direct influence on the harmonic distortion, frequency response, output power and transient response of the microphone.

  • Overvolting the tube increases 3rd harmonic distortion and output power, adding warmth and saturation to the signal.
  • Undervolting the tube increases the 2nd harmonic distortion and reduces the output power and headroom, resulting in a smoother and more musical timbre.

The V14 also offers three selectable sound profiles:

  • Flat – an unaltered signal flows directly from the tube to the output transformer. This corresponds to a “12”-like high frequency range,
  • “251 Rolloff”, a switchable capacitor that gives the famous Telefunken model its characteristic top end.
  • “Ribbon” style, which produces a thicker, warmer sound.

Capsule & Electronics:

  • BeesNeez CK12 capsules: Historically accurate replicas, handmade in Australia
  • 9 independently selectable directional characteristics via the power supply unit
  • Cinemag® T14 transformer
  • Hand-picked 6072A tube
