Microphone set for Drum recordings
Telefunken has put together the three unique voices of its TEC Award-winning Dynamic Series microphone range and added two matching small diaphragm FET condensers to the two larger packs. The sets are ideal for drum recording and live performance applications. Each microphone set comes in a durable hard-shell flight case and includes matching drum mounts and five-meter XLR cables with a right-angle jack for each microphone.
The drum mic packs from Telefunken consist of up to seven microphones. The packs are equipped with 4 (DD4 set), 5 (DD5 set), 6 (DC6 set) or 7 (DC7 set) mics. The different delivery scopes are as follows:
DD4 set
1x M82 with M782 mount
1x M80-SH with M784 (metal) and M785 (plastic) mount
2x M81-SH with M784 (metal) and M785 (plastic) mount

M80-SH
Telefunken has developed the M80-SH for snare drum and vocal applications where a flatter microphone with a right-angled XLR cable is required. The M80-SH has the same circuitry as the M80 Standard, but is housed in a shorter microphone body and has an integrated stand mount. The M80-SH’s wide frequency response and higher sound pressure level offer users an excellent alternative to the midrange-heavy character of many standard dynamic microphones in the industry. A cardioid polar pattern and a frequency response with a subtle rise in the high frequency range result in a microphone that is equally suitable for snare drums, vocals or instruments on stage and in the studio. The M80-SH has a robust, textured black powder coating on both the head grille and the housing.
- Transducer principle: Dynamic microphone (moving coil)
- Directional characteristic: Supercardioid
- Frequency response: 50 Hz – 18 kHz ±3 dB
- Impedance: 325 Ohm
- Sensitivity: 1.54 mV/Pa ±1 dB
- Max. SPL (1% THD): 135 dB
M81-SH
The M81-SH was developed with the aim of bringing a microphone to the market that not only complements the M80-SH, but also stands out from the crowd of dynamic microphones. The Telefunken M81-SH builds on the strengths of the M80 and has the same minimal proximity effect, superior feedback rejection and articulate midrange. However, the top end of the M81-SH is slightly reduced, resulting in a flatter overall frequency response. This combination results in a microphone with fullness and clarity, making it a great tool for making toms, percussion and horns seem bigger or taming brighter voices. The M81-SH is identical to the M81 in terms of circuitry, but has a shorter microphone body with an integrated stand mount and is finished with a robust, dark gray powder coating on the head and body.
- Transducer principle: Dynamic microphone (moving coil)
- Directional characteristic: Supercardioid
- Frequency response: 50 Hz – 18 kHz ±3 dB
- Impedance: 325 Ohm
- Sensitivity: 1.54 mV/Pa ±1 dB
- Max. SPL (1% THD): 135 dB

M82
The Telefunken M82 is a rugged large diaphragm dynamic microphone designed for kick drum and vocal broadcast applications. The M82 is hand-assembled in Connecticut, USA, and features two independently functioning EQ switches: KICK EQ and HIGH BOOST, which in turn offer four unique voices. The M82’s KICK EQ switch activates a passive filter that reduces some of the lower mid frequencies around 350 Hz that are often cut when processing a kick drum. The HIGH BOOST switch boosts the upper mids and high frequencies (starting at 2 kHz with a 6 dB boost at 10 kHz) to provide additional articulation. In the linear setting (both switches off), the M82 is equally suitable for vocals, guitar amplifiers and brass instruments.
- Transducer principle: Dynamic microphone (moving coil)
- Polar pattern: cardioid
- Frequency response: 25 Hz – 18 kHz ±3 dB
- Impedance: 250 Ohm
- Sensitivity: 1.85 mV/Pa ±1 dB
- Max. SPL (1% THD): 146 dB
M60 FET
The M60 FET (Field Effect Transistor) small diaphragm microphone developed by Telefunken is the first FET-based condenser microphone without a vacuum tube from Telefunken. The DC6 and DC7 contain two identical M60 FETs and two matched TK60 cardioid capsules. The TK60 has a gold-sputtered 6-micron diaphragm with a diameter of 15 mm, with a surprisingly full bass range and a fast and precise transient response. The frequency response is linear from 150 Hz to 7 kHz, with a smooth, airy presence peak at 8 kHz, making it ideal for drum overheads, hi-hat and ride cymbals as well as various percussion and stringed instruments. The incredibly fast transient response of the M60 FET captures nuances and subtleties with impressive precision and clarity. The result is an extremely detailed sound image with definition and presence that is perfect for the complex character of stringed instruments and percussive sources.
- Transducer principle: condenser microphone (FET)
- Polar pattern: cardioid
- Frequency response: 20 Hz – 20 kHz ±3 dB
- Impedance: 120 Ohm
- Sensitivity: 8.6 mV/Pa ±1 dB
- Max. SPL (1% THD): >130 dB
- S/N ratio: 89 dBA
- THD at 1kHZ at 1Pa (Amplifier): < 0.01%
- Self Noise (Amplifier): 5 dBA
