The IRON is a vintage tube compressor from SPL.
It was developed for mastering and is designed as a Vari-Mu.
The compressor works with 120V technology and has six different diode control characteristics.
Internal and external EQs can be looped in via the side chain.

Mastering Compressor
The input and output can be controlled in the range of +/- 12dB.
Attack and release times can be set in six stages from “Slow” to “Fast”.
The side chain function allows the compression to be focused on specific areas via an external and four internal EQ curves.
A rectifier circuit controls the tube stage.
It is possible to switch between six different diode control characteristics (germanium, silicon, LED and their possible combinations).
The tubes are integrated into a symmetrical high-level dual-core mu-metal-iron transformer.
Their bias voltage (TUBE BIAS) can be adjusted in three stages – low, mid and high.
The compressor works according to the principle of the bias-controlled remote cutoff tube, which is connected in parallel to a medium-variable-bias triode with a steeper characteristic curve.
In the middle section, there is a downstream passive filter network with two EQ presets:
The AirBass filter boosts low and high frequencies by approx. 1.5 dB.
The tape roll-off filter emulates the typical frequency response of a tape machine.
The link switch can be used to connect the right and left channels and adjust them together via the left channel.
Auto Bypass enables an objective assessment by automatically switching between the original signal and the processed signal.
The time window is infinitely adjustable via the interval control and is between 2 and 20 seconds.
The two channels can be activated or deactivated using the buttons underneath.
