- Dual-mono tube preamplifier
- 67dB preamp gain + 6dB output gain
- Line-, Mic-, Instrument Hi-Z- Level
The GoldMike Mk2 from SPL is a microphone and instrument preamplifier. It combines the advantages of Class A transistor amplification with warm tube technology. The 16 individual transistors of the preamplifier are capable of transmitting signals with high dynamics and very low distortion. Thanks to the tube sound, pleasant overtones are added to round off the sound musically.
Inputs and outputs (XLR, TS):
- Maximum input level: 23dBu
- Maximum output level (balanced): 26.8dBu
- Maximum output level (unbalanced): 21.5dBu
- Input impedance: 10dBu
- Output impedance: 50Ω
- Common mode rejection (0dBu, 1kHz): 70dB
- Frequency response (-3dB): 10Hz – 90kHz
- THD + N (0dBu, line gain unity, tube gain +6dB, 10Hz – 22kHz): 0.04%
- Noise (A-weighted, 600Ω): -88.5dBu
- Dynamic range: 110dB

Tube Preamp
The Class A transistor preamp has 48V phantom power, a phase shifter, pad switch and a Butterworth high-pass filter with a cut-off frequency set at 50Hz. The instrument input also operates in Class A mode and is designed as a discrete impedance converter. Effects units can be connected between the preamp and the output via the insert and return of a channel.
The VU meters show the current operating level, while the corresponding clip LED warns of clipping. If the optional AD converter is installed, the AD OVL LED warns of clipping of the converter. The integrated limiter is based on diodes and generates analog saturation effects. However, it is also so fast that it is suitable as a peak limiter. The “Flair” switch can be used to add overtones and boost the presence range very pleasantly. The combination of tube and the built-in coils enriches your sound musically and ensures assertiveness. The tube amplification can be set to three levels. The higher the level, the more pronounced the saturation effects and overtones.

Optional equipment for the GoldMike MK2
Luhndahl transformer (Premium)
Transformers are transformers that are used as an alternative to electronic balancing stages in inputs and outputs. They are often used in sound engineering as they round off the fundamental range and add a little more pressure. Trebles sound more present and silky. However, in order to achieve maximum precision in signal transmission, electronic stages should be used. Therefore, taste and application are decisive here. If the Luhndahl transformers are used in the microphone input, they provide an additional amplification of 14dB and thus relieve the preamplifier. There is also no additional noise, as the ratio passively raises the level in the transformer. This is why the input transformer is more important for preamplifiers. However, the sonic development is only complete with both transformers together.
AD converter module 1090
There are two digital outputs and a digital sync input on the 24-bit converter card. Input and output 1 are designed as S/PDif, output 2 as optical (Toslink).
The internal sampling rate can be set individually to 44.1, 88.2 and 96 kHz. If an external synchronization signal is running via the sync input, the values 32, 176.4 and 192 kHz can be selected.
Transformer + converter module
Both Luhndahl transformers and the AD converter module are installed in the largest version.
