The MK 41 effectively attenuates diffuse sound, producing a dry, clear sound.
It is exceptionally frequency independent: Sound from the side and from behind is strongly attenuated without coloring. This characteristic makes the MK 41 an international standard for indoor film sound.
The MK 41’s susceptibility to acoustic feedback is lower than that of any other Schoeps capsule type, provided that a loudspeaker is not directly radiating from behind. The supercardioid reaches minimum sensitivity at about 125° angle of incidence.

This is a real advantage over directional tubes, whose directivity only significantly exceeds that of supercardioids at higher frequencies, and whose frequency response and thus sound depend on the direction of incidence.
Therefore, the MK 41 offers an interesting alternative to the shotgun in many cases, even if the small dimensions do not immediately suggest the high directivity. As a capsule without a shotgun element, the MK 41 also comes closer to the sound source.

The supercardioid has the greatest directivity of all first-order pressure gradient receivers. The attenuation at 90° is approx. 10 dB. The polar diagram is independent of frequency. This makes the supercardioid the most popular microphone for dialog recording in film sound, especially indoors.
Up to medium frequencies, the directivity of the supercardioid is comparable to that of a normal shotgun.
