- CMIT 5 with Windshield
- rotationally symmetric polar diagram
- Very low wind sensitivity
- very light, robust metal housing
The CMIT 5 defined a new standard in shotgun microphones right from the start. Its bundling increases particularly evenly with frequency, resulting in an unusually balanced sound character. Furthermore, the level decreases laterally from the 0° axis particularly smoothly and independent of frequency. As a result, localized events can also be recorded here in a sound-neutral manner, and small errors in angling are forgiven. The CMIT 5 bundles more than you would expect from a microphone of its length. It is also used for music recordings, e.g. in opera, when a stronger directivity is required (e.g. in case of spatial confinement).
The similar MiniCMIT model offers the features of a CMIT 5 in a compact design and is recommended primarily for use with digital wireless transmitters.
The Piano is a highly effective windscreen for the CMIT 5 or the SuperCMIT. Its special design results in high acoustic transparency and thus extremely low sound coloration despite high attenuation of wind noise.
The Piano realized a whole range of unique features for the first time when it was introduced. Its elastically suspended basket prevents the transmission of fishing noise to the microphone. This makes the work on the fishing much easier. The microphone itself is also elastically suspended, here a suspension in the style of the CINELA OSIX series is used.
The Piano is extremely easy to use. Both the insertion of the microphone and the application of a skin require only a few simple steps. It is also very sturdy made of modern plastic.
The set Piano PIA-1 consists of:
- the piano windbreak
- a black fabric cover for indoor shooting and low wind
- a fur, optionally for medium (SP) or strong (LP) wind
- the OSIX elastic microphone suspension (hardnesses for CMIT 5: A3/B3)
- Etui

The sound of the CMIT 5 remains unchanged when the microphone is rotated around its longitudinal axis, because its polar diagram is the same in the vertical and horizontal directions (rotational symmetry).
By pressing buttons that can be operated without tools, three filters can be activated by which the CMIT 5 can be adapted to the shooting situation:
- The treble boost (+5dB at 10kHz) improves speech intelligibility and compensates for windshield attenuation.
- A steep-edged low-cut filter (18dB/oct. from 80Hz) suppresses low-frequency wind and fishing noise.
- A soft onset bass reducer (6dB/oct. from 300Hz) compensates for the proximity effect.
LEDs next to each button indicate the operating status of the filter. This makes it possible to see whether the microphone is in operation and which filters are active, even in the dark. The settings are retained after the power is turned off.
The capsule and the microphone amplifier are not separable in the CMIT 5.

„Immersive sound has been produced by France Televisions for a decade, but this year a unified setup of Schoeps microphones is used on all courts covered by France Télévisions to provide one of the most precise sounds of ball hits.“
Matthieu Parmentier, France Télévisions
