The Avalon U5 high voltage DI preamplifier combines a unique passive tone with a variable gain preamplifier and filter. The high input impedance is suitable for a wide range of signal levels and instruments, from acoustic guitars to active bass guitars and keyboards with high output power. The U5 direct box is packed with sonic character, as well as features that professionals demand.
DEVELOPED FOR LOW AND CONTROLLED BASSES
Avalon U5 DI preamplifiers have been in use worldwide since 1995. They have found their way into the rigs and recording sessions of the world’s leading musicians and can be heard on thousands of the best-selling (and best-sounding) albums and live performances.
MINIMAL SIGNAL DISTRIBUTION
The U5 has a Class A preamplifier with variable gain for boosting weak pickup signals and a high-level speaker input for recording the live sound of the instrument amplifier. Six passive tone EQ curves are also included to enhance a variety of acoustic and electric instruments. A high-cut switch eliminates unwanted acoustic pickups and high-frequency noise, while a headphone monitoring amplifier has been included for personal monitoring. Two DC-coupled Class A output amplifiers drive both the low-level mic preamp inputs and the +4dB high level inputs for direct-to-tape recording or processing. The active loop-through switch either selects the instrument input directly or sends the amplified and equalized signal to the amplifier via the front panel jack. A ground isolation switch eliminates potential ground loop or AC buzz problems with absolute certainty.
