Founded in 1964, Coles Electroacoustics is known for designing and manufacturing the highest quality ribbon microphones. The latest product is the Coles 4030L, an entry-level ribbon microphone with the outstanding sound quality expected from this renowned company.

The 4030L is a studio ribbon microphone manufactured using state-of-the-art CNC machinery and the latest magnet technology, which is also used in the esteemed Coles 4040 and 4050 microphones. The 4030L’s frequency response is exceptionally flat from 50 to 20,000 c/s, and in this range the shape of the bidirectional (figure-of-eight) polarity remains essentially constant in both the horizontal and vertical planes. The 4030L is a versatile microphone ideal for critical recording applications. Its smooth frequency response and ability to capture detail make it a top choice for many instruments. The 4030L can be used alone or as a pair with a 360-degree rotating stereo mount; ideal for the popular “Blumlein” stereo (crossed figure-eight) configuration or other arbitrary configurations. The red dot indicates the front of the microphone for phase purposes.
