The Phonitor One d from SPL is a headphone amplifier with two analog inputs and one USB input. Analog Input 1 has RCA jacks and is therefore unbalanced, while Input 2 is a balanced TRS jack. In addition, the “d” version of the headphone amplifier features a balanced jack output for use with studio monitors, for example.
A 12V power supply with 1.5A provides power to this excellent amplifier. In the secondary power supply, the voltage is stepped up to +/-17V, allowing it to operate at a professional level of up to +22.5dB. A low-dropout voltage regulator ensures clean signals even when the maximum voltage is reached.
What sets the Phonitor One d apart is that it features the innovative Phonitor Matrix. This technology uses crossfeed to create a soundstage that closely resembles that of speakers.
In the most advanced version, you have access to the Crossfeed, Speaker Angle, and Center Level parameters. The Phonitor One d comes preset with the most commonly used settings: -1 dB Center Level and a 30° speaker placement angle. The continuously adjustable Crossfeed creates crosstalk between the two channels (interaural level difference). When the Crossfeed is set to “Off,” the signal does not pass through the hysteresis circuit, which is implemented via a relay.
The Phonitor One d features the premium AK4490 DAC chip, which is equipped with AKM’s Velvet Sound® technology. Thanks to the DAC’s low-distortion architecture, even the finest details become audible. The chip supports a sampling rate of up to 768 kHz PCM as well as DSD (Direct Stream Digital) playback at resolutions up to DSD4 or DSD256 (11.2 MHz). This qualifies the Phonitor One d for the highest-resolution audio playback currently available.

Headphones Amplifier
The Burr-Brown OPA 2134 SoundPlus™ operational amplifiers, developed specifically for audiophile circuits, provide preamplification with extremely low noise and distortion of just 0.00008%. Using an FET stage, the operational amplifier achieves a slew rate of 20 V/µs, ensuring a lively and engaging sound.
Low-capacitance film capacitors are used as bypass capacitors to ensure precise transmission of the high-frequency signal components.
The bipolar transistors installed in the output stage of the headphone amplifier handle the positive and negative half-waves separately during amplification. This allows for a higher output voltage than would be possible with a transistor that amplifies both half-waves. Thermal coupling of the output stage transistors ensures a consistent sound.
