The Soyuz Silver 17 expands the 017 series with a new, more open sound signature: a handcrafted large-diaphragm tube condenser microphone with a present, airy high-frequency response, natural detail resolution, and the full, rich fundamental character for which the Soyuz 017 series is known.
At the heart of the design is the newly developed, edge-terminated S17E capsule—a 34-mm capsule manufactured in-house with a gold-sputtered diaphragm. It is based on the sonic DNA of the original S17 capsule but has been extensively reworked for the Silver 17. New acoustic resistors, an adapted backplate mechanism, and optimized diaphragm tension ensure a more responsive sound and a particularly balanced blend of tonal color, presence, and musical openness.
Sonically, the Silver 17 combines the rich, full low-midrange and the full-bodied midrange of the 017 TUBE with more air, clarity, and modern high-end extension. Vocals come to the forefront with presence, without sounding harsh or brittle. Acoustic instruments retain their body and depth, while transients are rendered with definition but never harshness. As a result, the microphone integrates quickly into a mix and reduces the need for post-production EQ correction.
The development was inspired, among other things, by classic large-diaphragm microphones with K67 DNA, as well as by rare vintage designs such as the LOMO 19A18, which is prized for its airy high-frequency response and its similarity to the C12’s sound character. Nevertheless, the Silver 17 is not a copy, but rather an original Soyuz design featuring modern technical implementation and classic sonic aesthetics.
Like every Soyuz microphone, the Silver 17 is crafted by hand without compromise. The housing is machined on a lathe; the capsule components are precisely cut, polished, and assembled by hand; the transformers are wound in-house; and the circuitry is consistently built using true point-to-point wiring. At the heart of the circuitry is a military-grade 6ZH1P tube, which is already used in the 017 series and plays a key role in producing its distinctive tube sound.
The Soyuz Silver 17 is ideal for vocals, acoustic guitars, piano, strings, drums, percussion, voice-overs, and broadcast applications. It delivers weight, depth, and musical brilliance without sounding overly bright or artificial—ideal for productions seeking a refined tube character with modern presence and open high-frequency response.

Inspired by Classics. Built as an Original
The Silver 17’s sonic core is based on a specially developed, edge-contact version of the S17E cartridge: a 34-mm cartridge with a gold-sputtered diaphragm that was developed entirely in-house and handcrafted.
The original S17 capsule was inspired by the K67 geometry—an architecture that forms the basis for some of the most-recorded large-diaphragm condenser microphones in history. It forms the basis for the 017 series’ tight low end and pronounced mids.
This foundation was consistently refined for the Silver 17. In doing so, the engineers drew inspiration from microphones such as the LOMO 19A18—a rare classic of Soviet manufacture that is often compared to the C12 and is particularly prized for its airiness and finely resolved high-frequency response.
This hybrid approach led to a completely new design of the capsule—with adjusted acoustic impedance, a new backplate mechanism, and optimized diaphragm tension. While the original S17 routes its electrical charge through the center of the capsule, the Silver 17 transfers the charge directly to the diaphragm and routes it through the mounting ring. Since there is no central screw, the most sensitive area of the diaphragm remains free of mechanical obstructions.
