The Master Bus Converter (MBC) from Rupert Neve Designs sets a new standard for reference-quality 24-bit/192 kHz A/D conversion technology. The MBC is equipped with RND’s latest Active Compound Release Analog Limiter, allowing you to drive higher levels with fewer artifacts than plug-ins and ensure clip safety for tracking or broadcast. Essential for tracking, mixing and mastering, the 2-channel master bus converter features a proprietary analog driver circuit from Rupert Neve that allows you to choose whether the converter is fed via a Class A transformerless path for unparalleled transparency or via custom inter-stage audio transformers with variable silk texture for a wide range of timbres. Equipped with precision clocking for vanishingly low jitter and phase noise, the MBC is perfect as a master clock and can of course be synchronized to another source. With its state-of-the-art conversion and wonderfully musical limiter, the MBC from Rupert Neve Designs is the ideal choice when it comes to capturing your analog signals with unfailing accuracy and stunning 3-dimensional detail.
As the last link in the analog chain before digitization, the converter’s driver circuitry is critical to the quality of the digital sound. The MBC was designed from the ground up for reference performance, regardless of genre or desired sonic character, and the key to this lies in the quality and adaptability of the analog driver circuitry.
For a bolder, more powerful feel, a specially designed intermediate transformer can be used with Rupert’s highly acclaimed Silk circuit to create the classic tonality of its vintage designs. Unlike audio transformers intended for line-level output, this new transformer is designed to keep the harmonics of the output transformer at a level suitable for the input of the converter itself. With the addition of the variable Silk function, the sound engineer can precisely adjust the desired amount of harmonics, with the “red mode” emphasizing the harmonics in the mid and high frequencies and the “blue mode” emphasizing the harmonics in the low frequencies. From a subtle transformer tonality without Silk to significantly more color than vintage modules with the Silk/Texture circuit fully turned up, the selectable transformer path fills your tracks with enhanced dimensionality and power.
When maximum transparency and fidelity are desired, the transformerless path offers exceptional detail and clarity. While many transformerless circuits suffer from a thin tonal balance and a lack of punch, the Class A circuit of the Master Bus Converter was developed by Rupert Neve with the utmost care.

A LONG WAY WITH AWAY
With more than seven decades of analog circuit design experience, Rupert Neve had never deemed a converter worthy of its trademark – until the release of the RMP-D8, a Dante-connected microphone preamplifier in 2018. While the RMP was designed primarily as a microphone preamplifier, its adoption by engineers at the highest levels of recording, mastering and touring as their preferred converter led to the development of the MBC, which created a new standard for PCM conversion quality.
