With the Dual Shelford Mic Pre, Rupert Neve Designs is releasing a limited edition dual microphone amplifier.Two step-up transformers are located behind the microphone inputs and provide the first 15 dB of gain.Two specially manufactured step-up transformers are located behind the microphone inputs and provide the first 15 dB of gain.While Neve’s output transformers and associated Class A amplifiers are actually responsible for the harmonically enriched sound, here the input transformers already make up part of the sound.According to Rupert Neve Designs, this primarily has to do with the impedance characteristics of these components and their “interaction” with the connected microphone.

In addition to the optimized transformers, the design also includes MU metal shielding.This is intended to give the preamp a very linear frequency response, which ranges from 10 Hz to 60 kHz.The gain is controlled via two controls.The pre-amplification is notched and can be adjusted in 6 dB steps up to 66 dB.The trim control provides fine tuning and can be adjusted continuously from +- 6dB.In total, the Dual Shelford Pre therefore offers an adjustable gain of up to 72 dB + 15 dB static input gain.
