The Brick Lane 500 represents a quantum leap in analog compression – a fully analog PWM compressor that surpasses traditional methods of dynamics control with its revolutionary modal PWM compression architecture.
Revolutionary modal PWM compression architecture
At the heart of the Cranborne Brick Lane 500 is its groundbreaking Modal PWM compression technology – a pagmatic approach that offers audio professionals unprecedented flexibility in audio compression. Unlike conventional compressors, this innovative design allows unlimited design of compression envelopes and styles without compromise.
Modal compression: The sound engine
The Cranborne Brick Lane 500 offers six different compression characters, each meticulously crafted to deliver unique sound signatures:
- VELVET – Vintage Vari-Mu style musicality with tube-inspired harmonic compression. This compression style offers smooth, organic dynamic control with vintage character.
- FLOAT – Transparent opto-inspired dynamics with moderate transparency and smooth, undulating compression ballistics.
- SMASH – FET-style transient dominance with aggressive dynamic reduction and explosive punch.
- TAME – Precision transient management with ultra-fast, transparent control and surgical dynamic precision.
- GLUE – “Glue” all elements of your mix together on your master bus with this function to achieve smooth bus compression.
- POLISH – Ultimate mastering-style limiting with the cleanest and fastest analog limiter using our “Analogue-Lookahead” technology.
The compression chameleon: a modal metamorphosis
Imagine a compressor that’s not just a compressor, but a whole arsenal of compressors in a single revolutionary module. The Cranborne Brick Lane 500’s modal PWM compression is built as if you had six legendary hardware compressors at your fingertips, each with its own personality, sonic signature and dynamic DNA. Each mode of the Brick Lane 500 is not just a setting, but a completely different compression philosophy.
The patchbay is set up anew in each mode and offers you a completely different compression style with each module, with unique compression ballistics that fundamentally change the behavior of the device. Attack and release controls change dramatically in the different modes – from glacially slow Vari-Mu-like curves to lightning-fast FET-like responsiveness. The compression ratios range from gentle 2:1 boosts to aggressive 20:1 sound generators. The knee characteristic changes from buttery smooth, rounded edges to razor-sharp precision.
The “Stress” control radically changes its harmonic character and saturation profile in each mode. What provides subtle tube warmth in VELVET becomes a transient-destroying beast in SMASH, a mix glue in GLUE and a loudness/clipping finalizer in POLISH. It’s not just a function, but a sonic shape-shifter that redefines compression as a creative sound design and mixing tool.
