API 3124MV | Discrete 4 Channel Preamp & Mixer

The API 3124MV is a professional 4-channel microphone preamplifier in 19″ rack format and is based on the legendary API 312 circuit used in classic API consoles. With discrete Class A technology, high-quality components and a sophisticated level and routing concept, the 3124MV is aimed at recording studios, broadcast production environments and mobile recording setups that require multiple high-quality preamp channels with the typical API sound.

Each of the four channels has a microphone input (balanced, XLR) with up to 65 dB gain, continuously adjustable via a dedicated gain potentiometer. The analog amplification is based on API 2520 operational amplifiers in combination with output transformers, resulting in high signal transparency, rich low-end and characteristic presence. The discrete topology enables noise-free signal amplification with high power handling at the same time.

The first two channels are additionally equipped with Hi-Z front inputs, which are optimized for guitars, basses or other high-impedance signal sources. Automatic input detection deactivates the rear microphone input when an instrument signal is plugged in. For optimum signal routing, the API 3124MV offers individual output controls per channel, which can be used to precisely adjust the output level – ideal for direct connection to A/D converters, compressors or other outboard processors.

Both balanced XLR sockets and balanced 6.3 mm TRS jack sockets are available as outputs. This parallel design enables flexible routing, e.g. simultaneous recording and monitoring. Each channel is also equipped with switchable 48V phantom power, a -20 dB pad and a phase reverse switch. The internal power supply structure provides stable operating voltages for all channels and is designed for continuous operation in a professional environment.

The API 3124MV is particularly suitable for drum recordings, vocal productions, guitar and bass DI applications and any signal that needs to benefit from analog warmth, headroom and API sound characteristics.
